A security guard has been sent to 10 years in jail by a Delhi court for raping a 31-year-old woman after abducting her and giving her a sedative-laced drink.
The court awarded the rigorous jail term to 32-year-old Paramjeet, a
Haryana resident, for raping the woman after promising to get her job,
saying there was nothing in the victim's statement to suggest she had
any animus to falsely implicate him.
"Testimony of the woman on careful perusal and analysis is found to
be clear, natural, cogent, convincing, trustworthy and inspiring
confidence," Additional Sessions Judge Mahesh Chander Gupta said. The
court also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on Paramjeet.
According to the prosecution, on the evening of October 5, 2011, Paramjeet had called the woman near Rithala Metro Station
on the pretext of getting her a job and made her sit in his car. He
gave her some stupefying substance in cold drink after which she lost
her consciousness and the man took her to a house where he raped her, it
said.
The woman had said that Paramjeet had dropped her near Peeragari road
in north west Delhi from where police took her to hospital and a case
was registered against him at Vijay Vihar Police Station. The woman had
told the police that from past six months prior to the incident, the man
used to repeatedly call her and on October 5, 2011, he had asked her to
come to the metro station for job purpose.
During the trial, Paramjeet claimed that he was innocent and had been
falsely implicated in the case. The court, however, said it was proved
that he had abducted the woman to rape her and took her to a house and sexually assaulted her.
